In the summer of 2013 we were contacted by Mr Sander’s as he was looking to refurbish his listed building. Being that the property was grade II listed Mr Sanders required a company to refurbish the existing 18 no. sash windows. Some company’s had suggested completed replacement due to the level of work involved in the refurbishment process. Once our initial survey had been carried out it was confirmed that the windows could be fully restored and upgraded without the need for complete replacement.
Subsequently JTP Joinery were instructed to carry out all of the joinery works to Edginswell hall including the manufacture of replacement French doors, bay windows and casement windows
Given that the windows were over 100 years old there was a lot of paint build up which was covering the internal mouldings. It was deemed that for the best possible results the sashes and box frames should be completely stripped of all existing paint. The sashes were removed and taken to be “dipped and stripped” whilst the box frames stripped of all paint on site. Once all paint had been removed we were able to carry out any essential repairs to any timber seen to be suffering from rot or decay.
Once the windows were fully repaired and cleared of paint we were then able to apply 2.no coats of primer to the windows and reinstate the glass. Where possible the original glass was reinstated. All glass, including replacement panes was installed and face puttied with linseed oil putty.
At this stage the sashes were routed to accept our unique perimeter draught seal system.
The sashes and box frames were then fully painted using the Dulux weather shield system.
The final element to the project was to install the sashes back into the box frames. To ensure the sashes would work effortlessly we installed replacement pulley wheels, sash chord, staff beads and parting beads. Lockable Sash fasteners and sash lifts were also installed in the Satin chrome finish the Mr Sanders had had specified.
“We are absolutely over the moon with the window refurbishment’s carried out by JTP. The windows are back looking brand new and really do the hall justice” Julian Sanders – Edginswell Hall.
